Goodbye London!!

A leaving gift from my friend Olly.. MONKEYS!!!

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have spotted that today is my last day in London and am flying out to New York tomorrow morning for the next instalment of my life. It hasn't really set in yet that I'm leaving. As usual, I have left the bulk of my packing to the last minute and I have a hundred chores to do before I go (so why I'm still online I don't know).

I have seen as many of my close friends as possible over the last couple of weeks, but apart from that, I am leaving quietly (I hate goodbyes!) so it feels like I'm just going away for a long holiday. I will also be blogging as usual when I'm there!

Moving to the U.S. has been on the cards all year and it's not happening quite as planned (I have to leave my husband behind for an undetermined length of time... two, three months or more(?) until he sorts some stuff out at work), but hopefully things will fall into place.

I have been feeling very nostalgic about London today, knowing that it is my last day here for a while. I've been here for five years but it feels much longer.

I know I am rambling in order to procrastinate from going back to my groan-inducing todo list, so I have written a little list for myself to remember the good times in London...

London is...

Where I fell into an industry I love and worked with the most incredible people, a few of whom I now count as my closest friends...

Where I've watched my friends move down and settle, get married and have babies...

Where I met my now husband...

Where I bought a huge 3-burner gas barbecue from eBay for those rare but glorious summer days we've had...

Where I might as well have started smoking with the amount of carcinogens I breathed in on the Tube...

Where I innocently started a beauty blog a year ago to record my beauty purchases and was unexpectedly thrown into the beauty blogging community where I have had so much fun and met the nicest people who I will genuinely miss (it's not the same on Twitter!)...

Where I got used to people calling me "Beauty Scribbler" when they meet me in person instead of "Helen"...

Where I grew into myself...

The best city in the world to eat out - nowhere else comes close...

The best city ever to spend your 20's.

  4. Here's wishing you a wonderful and adventurous journey to "The New World" across the pond. I've spent time living in both London and New York so I know that you'll find NYC like a collection of those delightful nesting dolls: explore one; remove the top and low and behold, there's another doll to be found. And so it goes. A city like New York offers a never ending supply of new experience.

I wish you success in your endeavors, happiness in your marriage, and delight in your new home town :-)

  14. hey I've just subscribed to your blog and I really love it. If u dont mind me asking, what do you do for a living? I am a programmer, a reluctant one at that and it sounds as if you've made changes in ur life, including creating this blog, which I admire. I would love to do the same and just do what I love.
